Each week, the plumbers
at ABC Plumbing & Rooter Co.
have a meeting about technical work,
but it ends on a philosophical note.
"We always end
the meeting with something regarding
living and life, being a better person,
doing something for the benefit of
others," said Rudolf Kellner,
the company's director of business
and finance.
"We're firm believers
that at the end of your life, the
only thing you have is what you have
given away. The only thing you leave
is your footprints. The more people
you helped or carried, the deeper
your footprints will be."
The company's work,
fueled by a generous business philosophy,
helped ABC garner the Small Business
of the Year award from the Chandler
Chamber of Commerce. The award will
be presented tonight at the chamber's
annual banquet at the Crowne Plaza
San Marcos Golf Resort. ABC was founded
in 1968 in New York by the mentor
of current owner William Chiusano,
who has worked for the company since
he was 15. When Chiusano moved to
Arizona in 1995, he bought the company,
which he moved to Chandler in 1996.
He has 11 employees.
Kellner said the company carries the
finest grade of products and focuses
on customer satisfaction and business
ethics, including full disclosure
of all pricing and work to be done.
"There are no surprises at the
end with any of our customers," he
said. "The customer knows exactly
what the problem is and what needs
to be done. If there are options
on how to do it, we give those options."
