Top 5 Plumbing Myths
Myth 1- Citrus fruits can help a garbage disposal to smell good:
Yes, this is true per se, but do you want to ruin your Chandler garbage disposal to have it smelling good? Although a garbage disposal may be able to completely grind up citrus fruits like grapefruit, oranges, and limes, it doesn’t mean that they are good for the disposal unit. The acidity that’s in these fruits are bad for the garbage disposal unit, and it can actually end up rusting the drains as well as corroding the entire garbage disposal unit. A better way of getting better smelling garbage disposal units is by using things like vinegar as well as hot water.
Myth 2- It’s better to clean a toilet with tank tablets:
These tablets may seem convenient, but the bleach contained in these tablets is very harmful to toilets. You may get a clean smelling toilet each time you flush, but after as little as six months, you may have a toilet that needs to be replaced because the bleach has corroded the tank. Although it may be problematic, it’s best to clean your toilet manually every week, instead of using the in-tank cleaners.
Myth 3- Wipes that are flushable are perfectly okay for toilets:
This couldn’t be further from the truth, especially since these particular wipes are the cause of many backed up toilets every year. The wipes are not something that can biodegrade, unlike toilet paper, so the wipes will eventually pile up and cause a clog in the line. Anything can be flushed down a toilet, but it doesn’t mean that it will completely go away once it’s flushed.
Myth 4- There’s no need to worry about a leaky faucet:
If you’re paying for water that you’re not using, why wouldn’t you be concerned about it? Even a leaky faucet that is letting out only a few drops per minute can still end up costing you good money over time. Any pipes or faucets that are leaking need to be taken care of right away, even if it means replacing the faucet completely or getting the pipes fixed.
Myth 5- It’s good to run water into a garbage disposal after putting food in it:
Unfortunately, this is backwards. The water should start running before any food is put into your Chandler garbage disposal, and then the food will go down easier.
