Timing is everything as the saying goes for most big decisions. The same can be said for the best time to tackle that remodeling job you’ve been planning.

So, when is the best time to start that project? Some times really are better than others. And, that timing depends on several factors such as weather, contractor availability, and budget.

Depending on the weather, spring and fall tend to be the ideal times for any work to be done outdoors.

Seasons. Winters tend to be less busy times for contractors in many places so that may be a good time to get your indoor remodeling projects completed if the timing is right with your budget. The busier time tends to be in the spring so if you’re looking to have work done during the busy season, be sure to schedule early. Keep in mind, prices may be higher depending on the volume of work that contractors have secured.

With indoor work that requires getting into the attic, if the heat is too high many contractors may not be able to work out of safety.

If you don’t mind having workers in your home during the holidays, this time of year can also be a great time to schedule a contractor as many people are scrambling to have things done by mid-November.

Phases. If you are trying to align your budget with your remodel projects, it may be a good idea to talk with your contractor to break it up into phases based on the working season. They can work with you to determine what phases work best within your budget and the time of year.

Tips. Keep the communication open with your contractor. If you are fine with having them in your home while you aren’t home, let them know that. Be sure to ask how they avoid disruptions such as changes in crew or weather if it’s applicable.
