Think your garbage disposal may be leaking? Here are some reasons and places that it might be leaking:
The sink flange, which is the where the disposal meets the drain may leak due to mounting bolts that aren’t secure or plumber’s putty that’s failed. This is an easy fix by simply either tightening the bolts or replacing the putty.
Leaks can also occur where the disposal connects with the dishwasher. Check to make sure the hose clamps are tightened or no cracks exist.
If your disposal is older, you may find that the inner shell has cracked. If this is the case, the entire unit will likely need to be replaced.
It is also possible to actually knock your disposal system loose. As you are in and out of the cabinet under the sink where most often disposals are located, it is possible to bump it hard enough to knock it lose, causing a leak.
