We have all heard about the potentially harmful effects of mold found in our homes. It’s something we worry about if we found moisture or any issues related to possible water intrusion or damage.
What do you if you suspect mold in your home?
If you see mold, you know it’s there. There is no need for a costly inspection to see if it’s mold. You see it. Call an inspector if you suspect mold and cannot see it.
If you see mold in your home, it’s important to remove it. You will need to remove the mold from the surface, such as walls, and ensure that any moisture or water source is also removed to prevent the recurrence of growth.
Depending on where and to what extent the mold growth is occurring, a lot of the clean-up may be able to be done by you with some scrubbing and the right cleaning solutions and protective gear. If the mold growth is extensive and has penetrated walls, you may find that you want to call a professional to ensure the mold is removed completely and safely.
If the mold is extensive, it could require restoration such as flooring and drywall replacement.
After the mold has been removed, you should consider having your HVAC ducts cleaned professionally to ensure the mold spores have all been removed.
If you find mold in your home, as a result of moisture or suspected water damage from a leak or broken pipe, you should consider also calling a professional plumber to find the source of the water so as to prevent future mold and damage.
