Do you know the steps necessary to shut off water to a specific location, your entire home or even your entire property should the need arise due to a potential problem?

If you have an isolated problem in a particular room, such as a bathroom, you can simply turn off the valve that is closest to the issue. That way, the rest of your home still has water.

Sometimes you either need to shut off the water to the entire house because of an unknown problem or if there isn’t a shut off valve specific to the room in which there is a problem.

Generally, this valve is located outside close to where the cold water pipe enters. Simply turn it clockwise to stop the flow of water to your entire house.

In the event that you need to turn off the water to your entire property, you can do so by looking for the main valve outside. It may be located in a concrete box just below the ground level out by the street. If you’re unsure as to the location, you can call your local water company.
