We last talked about ringing in the New Year with resolutions to meet the needs of your plumbing. But what about the rest of the home? It can seem overwhelming sometimes to simply keep up with the maintenance and expense of your home, but if you set a few easy resolutions, you can find yourself with greater peace of a mind…and a happier home!

Declutter. Clearing your home of clutter can create an instant feeling of peace. We invariably acquire a multitude of items that add to the “stuff” in our homes. The New Year is a great time to commit to purging all of that extra stuff you’ve got jammed in drawers, cabinets, and closets.

Shrink. Reduce your carbon footprint.  Turn off the lights when you’re aren’t using a room and unplug any chargers, appliances, not in use. Turn off the air conditioner and turn down the heater when you aren’t home. You can also replace light bulbs with LED bulbs and install low-flow showerheads.

Clean. Keep up with the housework by setting weekly goals. Pick up clutter and do the dishes daily. Clean bathrooms, dust, and vacuum once a week. Get your family to help!

Improvements. Now’s a good time to commit to budgeting for those home improvements you’ve been talking about. Think about replacing appliances, take a look at your roof and budget for that remodel you’ve been needing for a while.

Make time. We all talk about spending more time with family and friends. Commit to having your home ready for guests by giving it a fresh look and a few updates. Even something as simple as rearranging the furniture in a way that creates a comfortable flow can make a huge difference.
