It’s that time of year when many people start thinking about the possibility of a kitchen remodel. It can be quite an undertaking and even a bit overwhelming.
Here are some things to keep in my mind:
Planning. Be sure to do your research before you start any remodel project. This will definitely save you time in money in the process. Determine your existing plumbing layout and system so that you are able to understand if what you want to accomplish is actually possible. If you can’t figure it out, call your plumber to assist in this important step.
Determine your budget and plan for unexpected costs just in case. Also, include the cost of upgrades such as a larger water heater if you’re planning for that second wish list dishwasher.
And remember, to stick to your plan. Changing plans midstream could end up costing you valuable time and a lot of money.
Plumbing and fixtures. If you plan to invest in a remodel, it’s best to also consider the quality of the fixtures and materials you’ll be using. Have your pipes checked and invest in the highest quality you can afford. This can eliminate any issues down the road after the remodel.
You may find that opening up the walls to expose pipes is what is needed to ensure the functionality of your system is up to par with your remodel and upgrades.
Pick the right professional. Be sure to choose a plumber that is certified and experienced when it comes to your remodel job. Ask for references, take a look at their portfolio and understand what they can and cannot do. Ask friends and families for names and interview to ensure there is a fit with you and the job.
