We all have those typical odors in our homes from those everyday things like pets, cooking and just being home.  But sometimes, that stinky smell just doesn’t sit right and we know it’s time to investigate.

Animal Smells. For those of you who have pets, you know what the typical pet odors are: waste, hair, litter boxes or pet food. But when you smell something really rancid, like a noxious sickly smell, it is definitely time to investigate. It could be an animal has worked its way into your pipes or ductwork. Have a professional come out and take a look at your plumbing and ductwork to help you identify the location of the smell.

Something’s Fishy. Believe it or not, if you smell a fishy odor and you know it’s not fish, it could be a burning electrical component. Check around your house to see if you have any electrical equipment that looks like it is burnt or melting. Also, make sure that any plastic is away from the heat source so it won’t burn.

Rotten Eggs. The smell of rotten eggs could mean something is wrong with your plumbing or you could even have a gas leak. It could also be related to your sewage. Check to see if you can find the source of the smell from drains when you turn the water on. If you can’t find the source and you suspect a gas leak, it’s best to call the gas company to have it checked immediately. If you suspect your plumbing, call your local professional to come out and take a look to find and remedy the source of the smell.

Musty smell. If you smell a musty or moldy odor, it’s likely you’ve got mold somewhere. Be sure to check to dampness and water leaks to find the source of the moisture. If the problem is bigger than you can handle, call your local professional.
